Welp time to reclutter

Writer's picture: Miranda Fritz-DerflingerMiranda Fritz-Derflinger

We had newborn photos taken just shy of two weeks after Raelynn was born. We opted for lifestyle photos which meant the photographer came to our house. Who also happens to be my friend. And did our maternity session. She’s incredibly talented.

So anyway, newborn photos done at your house is great because you don’t have to go anywhere but also horrendously challenging because you don’t want clutter in your pictures.

Y’all I was shoving things I didn’t know I had into places I didn’t know could hide things! It took the night prior and the morning of to feel like everything was put out of sight. I will say my house looked profoundly fresh and inviting. So Jenny comes and takes pictures, seriously so cute. And she finishes and heads home.

I sat down to feed Raelynn and of course filled the Haakaa pump. Again not an official endorsement but if you’re a breastfeeding mama and haven’t heard of that pump, look it up. It is L I F E C H A N G I N G. Tanner offered to bag the milk for me while I finished feeding Rae J. Don’t mind me playing with her name a bit to see what nick name fits her best.

So he walks into the kitchen and can’t find anything because remember I hid all the clutter? Our counter tops were finally clear! But the pump stuff and bags were shoved in random cabinets. He sighed, started searching and said “well, I guess it’s time to reclutter”

He sounded sad. Like he was enjoying the fresh inviting house. I was too. I won’t lie.

But the way he said “it’s time to reclutter” I actually laughed out loud, this is a big deal because even two weeks after a c-section it still hurts to laugh, sneeze, cough or choke on your spit or water which I have been known to do often (I’m aware it sounds like I genuinely struggle with life). I laughed so hard because it’s not like we have to make an effort to “reclutter” it just happens organically at this house. The things, the stuff, it all just multiplies!

I have a sign on my mantle that says “dust bunnies are a country accent” which I take great pride in, because if anyone comes into my home and sees that sign, then proceeds to look too closely at my ceiling fans, baseboards or surfaces higher than my kids can reach, they will go “ohhhh I see she’s going for the country vibe”. They’ll just understand it’s the farmhouse brand we are developing.

I should really get a new sign that says “children come with a side of clutter” so people can come to the conclusion themselves that it’s just a natural progression of parenthood.

I sure did walk a few laps and bask in the glory of a clutter free house. So long as you didn’t open any cabinets, closets, or closed doors in general, and also didn’t move any couches or chairs away from the corner of the room, my entire house looked spectacular! Even if only until the girls started playing and we started you know living in the space again.
